[Also in Divisions A4 and D1] Articles in the form of a non-woven dense fibrous product having filamentary material distributed in random array or an open-mesh fabric having a first group of spaced strands placed across a second group of spaced strands are made by bonding filaments of nylon by thermo-chemical treatment with a multihydroxybenzene' compound, e.g. resorcinol, pyrocatechol, hydroquinone or pyrogallol. In specific embodiments a carded batt of nylon fibres is cross-lapped, and the multi-hydroxybenzene compound is applied before, during or after formation of the batt, which is then heated and pressed, or two or more groups of spacedapart parallel nylon yarns are laid at an angle to one another to form a reticulated non-woven structure, which is then bonded with the multihydroxybenzene compound. The filaments used may have a round, multilobal or multifaceted cross-section.
