Abstract

The invention comprises vat dyestuffs which contain at least on sulphonic acid ester group attached via the sulphur atom to a carbon atom of the dyestuff molecule. The dyes are made by reacting a vat dyestuff sulphonic acid halide with an organic hydroxy compound, by condensing a chlorotriazinyl or chloropyrimidyl vat dyestuff or a vat dyestuff sulphonic acid b -sulphato or b -chlorethyl amide or a vat dyestuff sulphonic acid or carboxylic acid halide with an amine containing a sulphonic acid ester group, by acylating an aminoanthraquinone with an acylating agent containing a sulphonic acid ester group or by acylating an anthraquinone sulphonic acid ester containing an acylatable amino group with an acid halide or acid anhydride. Examples describe the preparation of vat dyes of the above type including those of the formulae <FORM:0991026/C4-C5/1> <FORM:0991026/C4-C5/2> <FORM:0991026/C4-C5/3> The dyes vat dye and print textile materials of natural or regenerated cellulose by the usual methods.
