Process for the production of new vat dyes The main patent describes a process for the production of vat dyes, which is characterized in that an amine is condensed with an acid halide and the starting materials are selected so that vat dyes are formed which form a group of the formula -S02- Have NH-CH2CH2-halogen.
It has now been found that valuable vat dyes are also obtained if an amine is condensed with an acid halide and the starting materials are selected in such a way that vat dyes are produced which contain at least one sulfonic acid ester group in the molecule.
The term vat dyes includes dyes that are reduced to a so-called leuco form or vat, which has a better affinity for natural or regenerated cellulose fibers than the non-reduced form, and which are returned to the original chromophoric system by oxidation leaves.
Particularly suitable vat dyes are those of the anthraquinone series, for example those which contain a 9,10-dioxoanthracene ring with only three rings fused to one another, but also those anthraquinones which still contain fused, carbocyclic or heterocyclic rings or of several There are anthraquinone units, as well as vat dyes of perylenetetracarboxylic acid,
of naphthalene tetracarboxylic acid and indigoid vat dyes. In addition to at least one sulfonic acid ester group, that is to say one R-O-SO2 group bonded to a carbon atom of the dye molecule via its sulfur atom, where R is the remainder of an organic hydroxyl compound, e.g.
B. an aliphatic, araliphatic, cycloah- phatic or heterocyclic alcohol, a phenol or naphthol means, the dyes can still have the usual substituents in vat dyes, such as. B. halogen atoms, alkoxy groups, acylamino groups or arylamino groups contain th.
Vat dyes which contain at least one sulfonic acid chloride group are preferred as starting materials. Vat dyes containing two to three such groups are of particular interest. Examples of suitable starting materials are in particular those of the anthraquinone series, such as: acylaminoanthraquinones, eg. B.
1,5-Dibenzoylaminoanthraquinone disulfochloride, dibenzanthrone disulfochloride, isodibenzanthrone disulfochloride, as well as the sulfochlorides of the anthraquinone anthrimides and anthrimide carbazoles, of anthanthrone, dibenzpyrenquinones, n'yanthron, N'-pyrenequinones, n'-n'-anthranthron, N'-aptylsanthron, N'-a-tylsanthron, N'-antylsanthron, N'-antylsylanthron, dietary, fl

In addition to the above-mentioned sulfochlorides of the anthraquinone series, sulfochlorides of indigoid vat dyes, perylenetetracarboxylic diimides or perinone dyes are also suitable.
The sulfochlorides mentioned can be obtained by treating the corresponding vat dyes with chlorosulfonic acid or by reacting the corresponding sulfonic acids with acid halogenating agents such as phosphorus halides, thionyl chloride or chlorosulfonic acid according to known methods.
Another method of obtaining the sulfochlorides used as starting materials is to acylate aminoanthraquinones with benzoic acid sulfonic acid chlorides, a chlorosulfonylbenzoylaminoanthraquinone being formed.
In addition to the sulfonic acid halides mentioned, vat dyestuff carboxylic acid chlorides, mono- and dichlorotriazinyl derivatives of vat dyestuffs and the corresponding halogenated pyrimidyl derivatives [see e.g. B.
French Patent No. 1278215, French Patent No. 1273543, French Patent No. 1205883, French Patent No. 1228528, </ B> French patent specification no. 1228 533]. By reacting these vat dye derivatives with acylatable compounds such. B. with amines that have a sulfonic acid ester group, e.g.
B. with 1 aminobenzene 3- or -4-sulfonic acid methyl or ethyl esters, 1 aminobenzene-3- or -4-sulfonic acid phenyl esters and the like he holds esters according to the invention.
The latter can also be obtained from vat dyes containing amino groups, in particular aminoanthraquinones which have acylatable amino groups, for example from 1,5-dianiinoanthraquinone, 1-amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone, 4-aminoanthraquinone-2;
1 (N) -acridone, 4,4'-, 4,5'- or 5,5 'Diäniino-1,1'-dianthriüild = carbazole, 5-Aminoanthraquinone-2,1 (N) 1', 2 '( N) - naphthearbazole and from the compounds of the formula

if these amines are acylated with acid halides which have a sulfonic acid ester group.
Such acylating agents containing a sulfonic acid ester radical are, in particular, benzoic acid halides, preferably those of the formula
EMI0002.0059
called where. R denotes an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical.
These are expediently obtained by reacting the corresponding sulfobenzoic acids with chlorosulfonic acid to form the benzoic sulphonyl chlorides, condensation of the latter with alcohols or phenols to form benzoic acid sulphoesters and reacting the latter with acid chlorinating agents.
Compounds of the Pörmel, for example, also come as acylating agents
EMI0002.0078
in question.
The reaction of the aminoanthraquinones with the additive is expediently carried out in an inert organic solvent, for example nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene or o-dichlorobenzene at an elevated temperature.
The molar ratios of the components are expediently chosen in such a way that an amirio group of the antilirachiinon residue! About a Carbonsäüfechlöridgruppe or a group of the Fdfnel

of the acylating agent falls.
The P "arstoffi körineii obtained according to the present process, from which 1 = Iefstell'üngsgeffiiseÜ- fiert and processed to usable dry dye preparations. Isolation is preferably carried out by filtration.
The filtered dyes can optionally be dried after the addition of neutral or weakly alkaline coupager agents; The drying is preferably carried out at temperatures that are not too high, if appropriate under reduced pressure.
The new dyes are suitable for dyeing a wide variety of materials, but in particular for dyeing or printing textile materials made of natural or regenerated cellulose by the usual vat dyeing and printing processes. This gives strong dyeings and prints which are distinguished by excellent light and wet fastness properties.
Since the dyes, at least those that have an easily saponifiable sulfonic acid ester residue in an aqueous alkaline medium, are distinguished by their water or alkali solubility in contrast to the classic vat dyes, they show the advantages associated with them.
In addition to very good leveling and dyeing properties, the dyes according to the invention show the great advantage in apparatus dyeing in that, in contrast to classic insoluble vat dyes, they do not give any oxidation stains when foam formation occurs because the dye oxidizes on the foam surface in dissolved form remains intact and thus cannot adhere to the textile material in an insoluble form with the formation of stains.
The dyeings obtained with the dyes according to the invention can be coated with synthetic resins, for example polyvinyl chloride, without the dye migrating into the plastic, which is particularly important in the manufacture of synthetic leather.
The dyes prepared according to the invention can generally be vat very easily, the sulfoalkyl esters often at room temperature, and the sulfophenyl esters under more energetic conditions.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. The ratio between weight and volume parts is the same as that between the gram and the milli liter. Example 1 4.8 parts of m-benzoic acid-sulfonic acid methyl ester are in 80 parts of dry nitrobenzene with 3.5 parts of thionyl chloride with stirring and heating to 125 to 130 in the corresponding carbon acid chloride transferred.
The excess thionyl chloride is removed in vacuo and 6 parts of the diamine of the formula are then carried

EMI0003.0051
4.8 parts of methyl benzoic acid sulfonate are converted into the carboxylic acid chloride in 100 parts of dry nitrobenzene with 3.5 parts of thionyl chloride and 0.1 part of dimethylformamide with stirring and heating to 125 to 130.
The excess thionyl chloride is removed in vacuo, 5.4 parts of the tetramine of the formula
EMI0004.0004
are then entered and heated to 140 to 150 for 3 hours and 170 for one hour. After cooling to room temperature, the dye is isolated by filtration, washed first with a little nitrobenzene and then with a little alcohol and dried at 80 to 90 in vacuo.
Cotton and regenerated cellulose are dyed in blue shades that are true to chlorine and have very good general fastness properties, especially good fastness to soda cooking.
Example 3 26.8 parts of 1-amino-5-nitroanthraquinone are dissolved in 500 parts of dry nitrobenzene at 130 and then a solution of 9.5 parts of cyanuric chloride in 50 parts of acetone is added. The condensation is carried out for 8 hours at 130 to 140, then cooled and the crystalline condensation product is isolated by filtration. The product is then suspended in 500 parts of nitrobenzene and reacted with 20 parts of aniline at 140 ° C. with stirring.
After cooling to room temperature, the suspension is filtered off, the filter cake is washed with acetone and the nitro groups of the intermediate product formed are reduced to amino groups by known methods, for example by reduction with phenylhydrazine in o-dichlorobenzene.
7.2 parts of 4-sulfophenyl benzoate in 100 parts of dry nitrobenzene with 4.0 parts of thionyl chloride are then converted into the corresponding carboxylic acid chloride by heating to 90 to 95 for 2 hours and then 6.5 parts of the diamine described above are introduced . The mixture is heated to 120 to 125 for 4 hours and to 140 to 145 for a further 2 hours, with thorough stirring.
From the orange-yellow dye suspension, after cooling to room temperature, the dye is isolated by filtration, washed with acetone and dried at 70 in vacuo. The dye of the formula thus obtained
EMI0004.0039
dyes cotton and regenerated cellulose in orange shades with very good wet fastness properties.
Example 4 7.2 parts of 3-sulfophenyl benzoate are converted into the corresponding carboxylic acid chloride in 100 parts of dry nitrobenzene with 4.0 parts of thionyl chloride by heating to 90 to 95 for 2 hours and then with 4.6 parts of 1 , 1'-diamino-5,5'-dianthrimidocarbazole added. It is acylated for 6 hours at 140 to 145 and 2 hours at 170 to 175.
The initially brown suspension gradually turns yellow and the new dye can be isolated by filtration after cooling, washed with nitrobenzene and acetone and dried at 70 to 80 in vacuo. The dye of the formula thus obtained
EMI0005.0001
dyes cotton and regenerated cellulose in clear orange-yellow shades with very good fastness properties.
In this example, instead of the 7.2 parts of the 3-sulfophenyl benzoate, an equivalent amount of the 4-sulfo-4'-chlorophenyl benzoate of the formula is used
EMI0005.0008
or of benzoic acid-4-sulfo-2 ', 4', 6 'tribromophenyl ester of the formula
EMI0005.0012
this gives dyes with similar coloring properties.
Example 5 3.2 parts of the dicarboxylic acid of the putative formula
EMI0005.0015
produced by condensation of 1 mole of perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride with at least 4 moles of 3-aminobenzoic acid in boiling N-dimethylaniline, are in 100 parts.
finely suspended dry nitrobenzene and heated with 3.2 parts of thionyl chloride and 0.15 parts of pyridine with thorough stirring for 4 hours to 100 to 105, 1 hour to 130 to 140 and 1/2 hour to 170 to 175. After cooling to 140, the dicarboxylic acid dichloride is mixed with 4.0 parts of 1-aminoanthraquinone-5-sulfophenyl ester and the acylation is completed by heating to 130 to 140 for 4 hours.
After cooling, the dye becomes the presumed formula
EMI0005.0036
isolated by filtration, washed with nitrobenzene and acetone and dried at 80 in vacuo.
The dye thus obtained dyes cotton and regenerated cellulose from the alkaline hydrosulfite vat in strong red tones with very good fastness properties. The 1-aminoanthraquinone-5-sulfophenyl ester used in this example can be obtained by implementing the 1-nitroanthraquinone-5-sulfochloride with aqueous phenol sodium and subsequent reduction and shows a
Melting point of 172. Example 6 10.1 parts of 2,4-bis- (4'-carboxyphenyl) -6-oxy-1,3,5-triazine are dissolved in 100 parts of nitrobenzene with the addition of 24 parts of thionyl chloride and 2 Parts of dimethylformamide slowly heated to 110 with stirring. The resulting clear solution is kept at 110 for 45 minutes and then cooled, where the dicarboxylic acid dichloride is in fine needles. crystallized out. 4,
