Abstract

988,278. Valves. J. BROOKSBANK Ltd. Jan. 16, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1963], No. 4021/63. Heading F2V. A plug valve comprises a plug 2, rotatable in a housing 1 and having a bore 2a which connects or disconnects flow ports 1a, 1b. Each flow port is surrounded by a recess 11 which receives a seating ring 4a, 4b positioned by a lug 14. The plug is rotated by a spindle 10 having a threaded portion 12 which engages a threaded portion of a bonnet 3 whereby the plug is moved axially on rotation into tighter engagement with the rings 4a, 4b in the closed position. The valve spindle has a pin 7 which engages adjustable stops 6 on the bonnet. The flow passage through the valve may be straight through or of Venturi shape. The plug is supported at its end opposite the spindle by a trunnion 19.
