Abstract

1329243 Valves CONCENTRIC CONTROLS Ltd 29 Oct 1970 [29 Oct 1969] 52882/69 Heading F2V A metering gas tap suitable for use with natural gas or town gas without modification has a plug 6 provided with a main port 9, a groove 16 lying in a plane inclined at 11¢ degrees to a plane normal to the plug axis, and a bleed port 17 extending into counterbore 18. Ports 9, 17 communicate with outlet chamber 7 in the plug. In use; the tap remains closed for the first 30 degrees of movement, thereafter port 17 and groove 16 register in succession with inlet port (3) in the the tap body, and finally port 9 registers with port (3). Port 17 provides simmer flow with natural gas, whereas groove 16 provides simmer flow with town gas. Groove 16 and port 17 might alternatively be formed in the plug body, and port 9 could come into alignment with inlet port (3) prior to groove 16 and port 17, providing an arrangement in which maximum flow is obtained initially and then a progressive throttling. The plug is limited to 160 degrees rotation and its control spindle is depressed against a spring relative to the plug before the spindle can rotate the plug.
