Abstract

982,920. Heat storing apparatus. FIRTH CLEVELAND Ltd. Feb. 10, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960], No. 42991/64. Divided out of 982,919. Heading F4U. An electric thermal storage heater comprises a rectangular section insulating jacket 3 containing plates of heat storage material formed with recesses which co-operate to provide an air duct 2 through the mass in which is embedded an electric heating coil (not shown). Air enters the casing through a lower inlet provided with a replaceable filter unit 4 and is driven by a blower 7 through the duct to an outlet 12. To control the temperature of the effluent air a by-pass for the duct 2 is provided below the heat storage mass so that air can pass directly from the blower to mix with the air issuing from the duct 2 in a chamber 6 before flowing to the outlet. The air flow is proportioned between the duct and by-pass to give the desired outlet temperature by a vane 10 which is adjusted by a bimetal thermostat 11 located adjacent the outlet. The blower, which is further described in Specification 876,611, comprises a drum-shaped rotor 7 closed at both ends and driven at a predetermined speed by a motor 13, the rotor extending for the full length of the heat storage mass parallel to the adjacent longer side of the casing. The rotor has a series of curved blades arranged so that in operation air is drawn into the interior thereof from the lower side and expelled through the upper side, an external guide baffle dividing the suction side from the pressure side. The nose portion of the guide baffle is angularly adjustable to vary the output of the blower, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown),
