Abstract
573,535. Hot-air hand dryers. AIR CONDITIONING & ENGINEERING, Ltd., and KENNETT, V. A. April 1, 1943, No. 5259. [Class 81 (ii)] A hot-air hand dryer comprises an upright cabinet 10, formed with port-holes 16 for the hands spaced around its walls, an air inlet or inlets, a fan 19 to produce a flow of air through the cabinet adjacent the port-holes, means 18 for heating the air, means 12 for directing it towards the wall containing the port-holes and an air outlet or outlets separate from the air inlet or inlets. Air drawn through a perforated cover 22 by the fan 19, driven by a motor 20, is discharged downwards through the heater 18 towards the port-holes 16 provided with naps 17 to prevent undue leakage of hot air. The surface 12 guides the air towards the wall of the cabinet 10, the air escaping through holes 23. A thermostat 24 actuates to open the heater circuit, if the fan or motor fails, to prevent overheating. This thermostat or another, may also operate to maintain the heated air at a substantially uniform temperature. In another modification, Fig. 2, air is drawn upwardly through holes 27 in the cabinet, through a heater 29 to the centre of a centrifugal fan 31 which discharges it outwardly through curved louvres 38 whereby the heated air has a circuital motion between diaphragms 28, 34 finally escaping from an outlet 35 which is governed by a valve. A thermostat 39 is fitted. In a still further modification, the air is drawn from the top of the cabinet through a heating element to the centre of a centrifugal fan by which it is discharged through a duct and guide vanes to the space between two diaphragms, finally escaping through the lower diaphragm to the bottom of the cabinet.
