2 Claims. (01. 119-33) The invention relates to a brooder and more particularly to a forced draft brooder.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a brooder of this character, wherein there is arranged a heater and humidifier tank and a circulating chamber in which a definite percentage of humidity is added to the heated air for the conditioning of such air, while an equal distribution of heat is attained, thus assuring successful Working of the brooder.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a brooder of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form with a combined arrangement of heater and humidifier tank, the latter exposing a determined water surface corresponding to the heated air discharged so that the heated air will have a definite or determined humidity, thereby assuring air conditioning and cooling effect in the working of the brooder.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a brooder of this character which is comparatively simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its operation, mechanical in the working thereof, maintaining a forced draft method, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the brooder comprises a hollow body A including a series of outwardly sloping side sections 10, each being inwardly tapered and are formed at opposite side edges with upturned flanges 11, while at the smaller end is an upturned flange 12, the former, through the medium of fasteners 13, are joined with like. flanges adjacent thereto of the side The flanges 12 through the medium of fasteners 1a are united with a substantially hexagonal shaped crown 15, the latter being formed with an upturned flange 16 meeting the flanges 12 of the side sections, the fasteners 14 being passed through these flanges 16 and in this fashion the crown is united with the side sections of the body A.
are formed with the downturned edges 17, these lap seamed at 18 with the perforated bottom sections 19, the latter being of a shape correponding to the side sections 10 and are united together in a like manner to said side sections, while centered with relation to the crown 15 is a substantially hexagonal-shaped perforated baffle plate 20, the latter being rivetedor otherwise secured to the sections 19 as at 21 marginally of said plate 20.
Connected with the edges 17 of the sections 10 are legs 22 which elevate the body A with the bottom 19 the proper height from a foundation or floor of an incubator to provide the hover space 23 beneath said body A, While within the latter is an air circulating chamber or space 24.
Fitted Within the crown 15 centrally thereof is a casing 25, one-half of which projects exterio-rly of the body A through said crown and the other half depends within said body A to protrude into the circulating space 24. Within the upper portion of the casing 25 is an electric motor 26 operating a bladed fan 27, the latter operating in a suitable opening therefor in a horizontally disposed partition 28 for separating the upper portion of the casing 25 from the lower portion of the same and this lower portion constituting an upper heating chamber 29 having therein an electric heater 30, the shell 31 of which being secured to the casing 25 and provides an exhaust opening 32 into the circulating space 24. The upper portion of the casing 25 has formed therein air inlet openings 33 for the admission of air from without into the casing to be acted upon by the fan 27 for moving such air through the heater 30 and discharging the same through the exhaust 32 into the space 24 in the body A.
The motor 26 and heater 30 are arranged in a suitable electric circuit, the conduit thereof being indicated at 34 and this circuit includes a thermostatically controlled switch 35. The conduit 34 is connected with any suitable source of current supply and the circuit is opened and closed by a hand switch 86 of any approved type.
Arranged within the circulating space 24 and suspended from hangers 37 is a humidifying tank 38 having a let-off drain pipe 39 which extends, exteriorly of the body A and carriesa removable end cap 40 which when taken off will permit the draining of the tank 48. Exteriorly of the body; A is a water reservoir or font 41 having a delivery pipe 42 depending therefrom and provided with a discharge nozzle 43 communicative with the tank 38, the nozzlebeing equipped with a ball float controlled valve regulated by the ball float 44 which controls the delivery of water from the font or reservoir 41 into the tank 38 as should be obvious.
The tank 38 is of a size having a given number of square inches of exposed Water surface in accordance with the number of cubic feet of heated air discharged per minute from the heater 30 and thus functions as a circulating medium in which a very definite percentage of humidity is added to the heated air so that in the working of the brooder it operates as an air conditioner and cooler.
The body A has fitted therein a thermometer 45 which enables an attendant to determine the temperature within an incubator in the use of the brooder therein.
The motor 26 is stationarily mounted in the upper portion of the casing 25 through the medium of the bracket or hanger 46 for said motor.
The inner surfaces of the side sections 10 and the crown 15 carry asbestos covering 47, the latter being coextensive with the said sections and crown.
The heated air within the space 24 and under circulation is delivered through the perforated sections 19 of the bottom and the bafiie 20 to the hover space 23, the discharge being through the perforations of said sections and plate. The
reservoir or font has a removable cover or lid 48 thereon for access thereto.
It should be apparent that by reason of the disposition and the construction of the perforated bottom sections 19 and the perforated bafliev plate 20 the warm air is distributed evenly over the area confined by the brooder and thus assuring a successful working of the structure.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the brooder will be clearly understood and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
It is contemplated that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the invention as come properly within the scope of the appended claims Without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:-
1. A. brooder of the character described comprising a hollow body having a contracted top and a perforated bottom, a casing disposed centrally of the body and having the upper half projected through the top and the lower half depending within the body, a motor driven fan mounted in the upper half of the casing, a heater mounted in the lower half of said casing and opening through the side thereof, said upper half of the casing having air admitting openings, legs elevating the body to provide a hover beneath its perforated bottom, and a baffle plate centrally of the perforated bottom and aligned with the casing.
2. A brooder of the character described comprising a hollow body having a contracted top and a perforated bottom, a casing disposed centrally of the body and having the upper half projected through the top and the lower half depending within the. body, a motor driven fan mounted in the upper half of the casing, a heater mounted in the lower half of said casing and opening through the side thereof, said upper half of the casing having air admitting openings, legs elevating the body to provide a hover beneath its perforated bottom, abafile plate centrally of the perforated bottom and aligned with the easing, and a humidifier located interiorly of the bottom in confronting relation to the heater at the point of communication thereof with said body.
