Abstract

982,919. Heat-storing apparatus. FIRTH CLEVELAND Ltd. Feb. 10, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960], No. 5060/61. Heading F4U. A transverse flow blower 7 as described in Specification 876,611 draws ambient air through a filter 4, Fig. 1, and forces it through a duct 2, passing through a heat store 1, to an outlet 12. A thermal element 11 in the outlet opens a bypass valve 10 when the outlet air temperature rises excessively. The motor (not shown) for the blower is located in a thermostaticallycontrolled convection flue 14. As shown in Fig. 4, two blowers 39, 40 are located in lower end compartments 37, 38 between which lies a central compartment 33 disposed beneath the heat store and from which air ducts lead through the store to an outlet compartment 35. The separator between compartments 33, 35 is an apertured plate 44 normally closed by a sliding apertured plate 46 which is slid by thermal elements 47, 48 to open by-pass apertures 45, 49 between compartments 33, 35 when the outlet air temperature is too high. Blowers 39, 40 are respectively of high and low capacity and exhaust into compartment 33 through flap valves 41, 43. The former is opened by air pressure as soon as blower 39 is started. The latter is normally held closed by a bimetallic element heated from the heat store and mounted in the valve. When fan 40 is started, however, it blows cold air on to the valve and the latter is opened by the thermal element. Specification 982,920 also is referred to.
