Abstract

982,068. Exhaust silencers. C. AECHTER, and E. J. LEY. May 14, 1962 [May 13, 1961; May 4, 1962], No. 18473/62. Heading F1B. In a compressed air or exhaust gas silencer having expansion chamber walls consisting wholly or in part of flexible material, expansion chambers 3 Fig. 1 are connected in series in the direction of flow, the expansion chamber walls being at least in part resiliently deformable. The expansion chambers are formed by constricting a flexible plastic envelope with rigid or resilient rings 41 which may be formed in the envelope. An inlet manifold 42, of non- corrosible metal or plastic, may have inner or outer cooling pipes. In another embodiment a hose (not shown) of a flexible but inelastic material, is surrounded by a rigid inner envelope 51 Fig. 2 having apertures 52 which expose parts of the hose to be acted on by leaf springs 52.
