Abstract

746,702. Silencing gaseous currents. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT. Ltd., and BELL, F. R. March 15. 1954, No. 7492/54. Class 7(2) [Also in Groups XII and XXVI] A gas turbine engine used is enclosed in a casing in the wall of which air entry orifices are provided and the casing is lined with sound absorbing material to silence the inrushing air and engine noises. A gas turbine engine 1. is mounted within an elongated casing 2 having air entry orifices 3 in a side wall near the end opposite the end towards which the engine is situated. The turbine exhaust gases are discharged through a duct 5. The casing 2 is lined with sound absorbing material 6 held in place by expanded metal wire mesh screening 7. The exhaust duct 5 is also formed of sound absorbing material and wire mesh screening. An extension 8 of the exhaust duct may be attached., permanently or removably, to the casing 5.
