Abstract
981,118. Drawer and shell cartons. AMERICAN CAN CO. Dec. 3, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1963], No. 47629/63. Heading B8P. A carton comprises a receptacle portion, Fig. 3, mounted in a tubular sleeve, Fig. 6, the receptacle portion having a base 33 with a hinged panel 37 and end and side walls of multiple thickness, the side walls 31, 32 having lines of weakness 28 and the sleeve having a pair of opposed main panels 56, 58 hingedly connected by side panels 57, 55 all of multiple thickness so as to maintain a rectangular cross-section. The side walls of the receptacle are formed of doublethickness by adhering extension flaps 31 to the inner faces of panels 32 and the side and end walls are joined by adhering flaps 34 to the inner surface of end panels 36, 38, extensions 35, 39 being folded over them to form end walls of double thickness. The sleeve portion walls are formed of double thickness by adhering flaps 50, 51, 52, and 53 to the panels 55, 56, 57 and 58, and the sleeve is completed by adhering flap 54 to the inner face of panel 58. The lines of weakness are broken when the carton is opened to give easy access to the contents. The contents may be wrapped in transparent or metal foil before insertion in the receptacle and the completed carton may be overwrapped after filling.
