962,761. Cigarette cartons. D. S. MAGEE. Sept. 21, 1962 [July 3, 1961], No. 23942/61. Heading B8P. A cigarette carton made from a single blank comprises a tray 1 and a lid 8 whose side walls 10, 11 are secured to tray side walls 3, 4 to form a lid portion permanently attached to the tray, the remainder of the lid hinging about a line 13 with ears 20 on lid side walls 14, 15 sliding into pockets formed between lid side walls 10, 11 and tray side walls 3, 4, respectively. In a first embodiment the lid side walls 10, 11 are of double thickness with areas of the inner walls removed to form the pockets and tray end wall 5 has gussets 9 outwardly folded to allow it to be pressed inwardly against the base of the tray. In a second embodiment lid side walls 10, 11 are of single thickness and ears 20 are of reduced size. In a third embodiment, Fig. 8, a slimmer carton is provided wherein the tray end walls slope at about 60 degrees to the tray base 2, the distance between this base and the lid front wall being less than twice a cigarette diameter. Also, end wall 5, attached only to tray base 2, slides between lid end panels 16 and 22 as the lid is closed. In this embodiment the cigarettes are packed transversely.
