978,432. Beams for buildings. A. NACHBAUR, and H. FATTINGER. Feb. 28, 1961, [Jan. 25, 1961], No. 7236/61. Heading E1V. A brick 2 for use in beams for a floor or ceiling comprises an upper web-like portion I and a lower portion 3 which is open at two opposite ends, closed at the top, bottom and one side, and at the remaining side is open as shown or is closed by an easily removable wall or by a second brick temporarily formed with the first. As shown in Fig. 13 a number of bricks may be joined together as a preformed beam which is reinforced with bars 22, 23 held in concrete and is provided with steel stirrups 34 for securing the beam in the concrete of the floor or ceiling construction. The walls enclosing the cavity of each brick may be of curved or non-planar formation particulary to enable the brick to be used.
