Abstract
978,195. Preventing furnace corrosion. H. SENFT. May 16, 1961 [May 19, 1960] No. 17775/61. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B2] A corrosion inhibiting powder, such as magnesium oxide, of a particle size less than 20 Á is supplied to a Venturi nozzle arrangement 9 from a hopper 20 via a vibratory shoot 7, mixed with air in the Venturi arrangement 9 and blown into a combustion chamber 2 at a pressure above that in the combustion chamber. The outlet of the hopper 20 is adjustable by a gate or flap so that the amount of dust supplied can be varied, and the shoot 7 delivers the dust to a hopper 8, which vibrates with the shoot, or direct to a tube 12 connected to the Venturi 9. The tube 12 opens into the pressure chamber 9b of the Venturi assembly, Fig. 2, where a nozzle 16 delivers compressed air to entrain the powder through a convergent divergent nozzle to distributer nozzles 14. The nozzles 14 are arranged to deliver powder to the flame at an angle to the burner axis and about one-third of the length of the flame from the burner mouth.
