Abstract

865,112. Pulverized fuel fired boiler furnaces. KOHLENSCHEIDUNGS-G.m.b.H. April 9, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1957], No. 11624/57. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XIII] In a pulverized fuel fired tube lined boiler furnace comprising a tangentially fired combustion chamber 1, Fig. 1, a gas outlet channel 3 and a radiation chamber 2, the horizontal cross - sections of the chambers and the channel are approximately elliptical. The fuel and combustion air are blown into the combustion chamber through respective nozzles 27, 28, Fig. 2, additional air being supplied through nozzles 29. The chamber has a molten slag outlet 30 and, in operation, slag particles are centrifuged against the chamber walls, the rate of particle separation from the gases being increased, if necessary, by the use of sound generators which may be incorporated in the nozzles. The chamber 1 may be of circular cross-section and the ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the horizontal cross-section of the channel 3 may equal, or be greater than, the similar ratio of the combustion chamber. The horizontal crosssection of the radiation chamber 2 may either remain unchanged up to the boiler roof or be of rectangular section in the upper part.
