Abstract
978,079. Cigar-making machines. KONINKLIJKE VEREENIGDE TABAKSINDUSTRIEEN MIGNOT & DE BLOCK N.V. April 4, 1961 [March 31, 1960], No. 12030/61. Heading A2C. Fingers 34 projected against spring action from a rotary cylinder 32 by a cam 36 compress filler tobacco from a hopper 30 into a shaft 29, the drive for the cylinder 32 being through a differential gear the carrier 38 of which is linked at 37 to the cam and is free to turn under the combined effect of torque reaction and a spring 40 as to adjust the cam to always release the fingers 34 when a predetermined pressure on the tobacco is reached. Compressed tobacco forced from the shaft 29 is cut off by a knife 25 and falls to a rolling apron 8 (or rollers) for bunch forming. In a modification, the differential gear is omitted and the fingers are released directly by the tobacco pressure acting to spring them out of retaining detents, the cam being stationary. There is a further cam acting to retract the fingers positively if necessary.
