Abstract
974,327. Moulding shoe soles. I. & C. A. SCHNEIDER G.m.b.H. July 12, 1963 [July 13, 1962], No. 27799/63. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A3] A sandal is made by inserting the ends 5 of the various parts of the upper 4 through slots 3 in an insole 1 and moulding, e.g. by compression or injection moulding, an outer sole 2 of rubber or synthetic plastics material on to the underside of insole 1 and over the ends of the upper parts. The ends 5 of the upper may be perforated and may be bent over and adhered to the insole (Fig. 2) or project downwards away from the insole (Fig. 3), the ends of the upper being larger than the slots to prevent the upper rom being pulled out. The sole is moulded in a mould (not shown) which has a sealing lip which engages the upper surface of the insole. An orthopaedic foot-supporting surface can be produced by using a form or last of the required shape, the pressure during moulding of the bottom sole being sufficient to conform the insole to the required shape.
