Abstract
1,226,957. Injection moulding; shoes. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 13 June, 1968 [14 June, 1967], No. 27354/67. Heading B5A. Shoe soles may be moulded on to uppers using injection moulding apparatus comprising a sole mould 2, Fig. 1, having a peripheral wall 8, side members 14 having welt closure portions 18 with a foot form 30 carrying an upper u thereon, all being reciprocable to and from open and closed positions, there being a gasket 13 providing a seal between the peripheral wall 8, of the sole mould 2 and closure portion 18 and sealing members 22 providing a seal between closure member 18 and foot form 30. The gasket (63, Fig. 4, not shown) may alternatively be on the underside of the closure portion (68), or there may be a layer of resilient material (43, Fig. 3, not shown) forming the sole moulding surface (6<SP>1</SP>) and the gasket (13<SP>1</SP>) integrally. In a further embodiment, the sole mould may itself be of resilient material, itself effecting sealing. The resilient, deformable material may be silicone rubber or polyethylene. The sealing members (72, Fig. 4) may be shaped similarly to the shoe above the feather line thereof, the upper being engaged by the sealing members progressively closer to the feather line as the side members close. The sole may be formed of polyurethane.
