In making a sandal with a shaped insole 3 in which the upper 1 extends over the edge of the insole but not around the entire edge thereof, and the outsole 5 is moulded thereto by vulcanizing or injection moulding, the insole is sufficiently elastic for the parts of the upper to be pressed into the insole by the sealing edge 6 of the mould which thereby forms a continuous seal around the sandal. The insole is formed by the injection moulding of a mixture of cork waste and polyvinyl chloride paste. The ends of the upper are tacked to the underside of the insole.
