Patterned shoe soles comprise a layer made of porous or microcellular material 4 provided with projections which are covered by a layer of dense elastomeric material 1. The pattern may be in the form of transverse wedge shaped parallel ribs, transverse or longitudinal corrugations &c. The dense rubber covers the waist undersurface, and the side edges of the heel, sole and waist portions. The sole is moulded direct on to the upper assembly. Specification 940,970 is referred to.
