Abstract
1,228,172. Injection moulding. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 20 June, 1968 [21 June, 1967], No. 28532/67. Heading B5A. A shoe sole mould includes a member 20 of resiliently deformable material, e.g. of silicone rubber with a mould cavity in the form of a shoe bottom, the cavity being bounded by a lip 26 with a surface 27 corresponding in contour to a shoe in a region adjacent its feather line. The member is surrounded by a body 8, the inner vertical wall of which is parallel to the side wall of the cavity. The surface 12 of the body 8 has a heightwise contour corresponding generally to that of the feather line. A lasted upper assembly U is compressed against the lip 26 and a polyurethane moulding material is injected into the closed cavity through a bore 80, and air is vented through an outlet, not shown. The mould assembly is made by moulding the body 8 about a suitably shaped form placed on a base, removing the form to leave a space 10 and machining the surface 12 to the appropriate contour; a shoe bottom unit, slightly smaller than the unit to be moulded, is mounted on a last and positioned within the space 10; a seal is provided between the body 8 and unit, and uncured silicone rubber is fed to the space to provide, on curing, the member 20. The last and unit are raised to leave the mould cavity.
