Abstract

1,197,727. Moulding footwear. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 21 Aug., 1967 [20 Aug., 1966], No. 37406/66. Heading B5A. At least part of the surface of a mould cavity for use in the moulding of shoe bottoms is constituted by a piece of flexible sheet material secured to one of the mould members. The invention is applied to the injection moulding of p.v.c. shoe soles on to lasted uppers. In one example vulcanized rubber inserts 16, 20 are secured by adhesive in recesses 14, 18 in a sole mould member 4. The inserts can be replaced by others if a different tread pattern is required. In a modification (not shown) the patterned sheet material extends all over the surface of the sole, the recesses in the sole mould member being omitted. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the flexible sheet material (50) has a cut-out portion receiving a correspondingly shaped insert 56 having a different pattern.
