Abstract

1,268,935. Injection moulding footwear. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO. Ltd. 17 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968], No. 13977/69. Heading B5A. Articles of footwear or parts thereof are made by a method including three or more separate injection stages. Thus three or more of the following parts are made by injection moulding (i) an upper, (ii) an insole, (iii) a complete upperinsole combination, (iv) a shank reinforcement, (v) a heel, (vi) a sole, (vii) a complete heel-sole assembly, (viii) a foxing strip around the soleheel assembly and (ix) a toe section. The different parts may be of materials of different chemical composition, colour, hardness or resilience. Materials specified include polypropylene, ethyl vinyl acetate, polystyrene, P.V.C., polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate and synthetic or natural rubber compounds. The insole may be of foam material. In the example shown in the drawings a number of moulds mounted on a rotary table 12 are presented in turn to three injection apparatuses (A), (B), C for injection moulding a shank reinforcement 38<SP>1</SP>, a sole 44<SP>1</SP> and a heel 46. The moulds each comprise a last 16, side members 18 and three closure members 20, 22, 24 mounted on arms 26 of a member 28 which is rotatable about an axle 32.
