Abstract

1,141,836. Moulding footwear. A. J. G. BAUDOU. 2 May, 1966 [22 April, 1966], No. 19306/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A3] A moulded shoe upper of imitation leather is formed with an extension which extends over at least part of the shoe bottom and to which the sole is attached. In a first embodiment a one-piece moulded shoe upper 5 is formed with an in-turned flange 6 having apertures 4. The upper 5 is placed on a form, preferably with a sock (not shown), and a sole and heel unit is moulded on to the shoe bottom, the material of the sole and heel unit passing through the apertures 4 to form a key. Alternatively the flange 6 may extend across the whole of the shoe bottom, or a preformed sole and heel unit may be secured to the upper by gluing or sewing. The upper may be split down the back edge which is then covered by a panel so that one upper unit can be used for several different sizes of shoes. In a second embodiment (Fig. 10) the upper assembly is formed from a moulded vamp 15, moulded quarters 23 and a moulded galosh 12 having an in-turned flange to which the sole and heel unit may be secured. In a third embodiment (Fig. 11), the upper is moulded in two halves using a male mould 26 and two female moulds 25, 25a, a plate 27 on the male mould 26 separating the two halves 28, 28a of the upper.
