Abstract

1306391 Boots &c E T WRIGHT & CO INC 8 April 1970 [9 June 1969] 16671/70 Heading A3B [Also in Division B5] A studded shoe bottom member, e.g. for a golf shoe, includes a stud plate formed with bosses in which the heads of studs are embedded, and an outsole having soles through which the studs pass and in which the bosses are located. In a first embodiment (Figs. 6, 11) studs 14 are embedded in a moulded stud plate 10, each stud having its upper end embedded in a boss 32 projecting from the plate 10. The plate 10 is formed in a mould consisting of a side ring 52, cover plate 56 and a bottom plate 54. The studs are located in holes 58 in hardened inserts in the bottom plate 54 and may be held therein magnetically or by pins 56a projecting from the cover plate 56. The stud plate 10 is combined with a preformed outsole (not shown) having holes corresponding to the bosses 52, to form the shoe bottom, the two parts being joined by adhesive. A cushion layer may also be interposed between the stud plate and outsole. In a second embodiment (Figs. 12, 13) the studs are embedded in conical projections 32a in the stud plate 10 and the stud plate 10 is incorporated in a moulded out sole using a mould consisting of a side ring 80 and a bottom plate 82 having hardened inserts 96. The mould may be closed by a lasted upper as shown or by a cover plate.
