Abstract

1,236,131. Boots &c. M. L. AUSTIN and C. J. AUSTIN. 26 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 9173/68. Heading A3B. Studs or spikes 5 are attached to a moulded sole 1 by embedding a preformed moulded member 2 of higher mechanical strength than the sole 1 in the sole 1, the member 2 consisting of a retaining portion 3 for the stud 5 and an integral pressure distributing plate 6 which has a convex lower surface. The retaining portion 3 may be concentric or eccentric with respect to the plate 6 or may be remote from the plate 6 and connected thereto by a connecting member (not shown). The members 2 may be joined by an integral strip 11 (Fig. 4) having apertures 12 and all the members 2 in the forepart or heel region may be joined by a mesh (not shown). The studs may be incorporated in the shoe sole at different levels or at different angles. The member 2 may be formed with a second flange which lies flush with the sole bottom. Suitable materials for the member 2 are hard p.v.c. or nylon.
