Abstract

1,248,679. Boots &c. SUCKLING BROS. Ltd. 24 Nov., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 57475/ 69. Heading A3B. A shoe having threaded sockets 1 for studs (not shown) embedded in a moulded sole 17 is made by positioning the sockets 1 on the insole 12 of a lasted upper with compressible spacing means 14 between the insole 12 and sockets 1, placing the shoe in a moulding machine so that the free ends of the sockets 1 engage the sole plate (not shown) of the mould and to some extent compress the spacing means and then moulding the outsole 17. The compressible spacing means e.g. double sided corrugated cardboard 14 ensures that all the sockets contact the sole plate and that the material from which the sole is moulded does not enter the sockets 1. In the sole region the sockets 1 may be mounted on a carrier frame 3, e.g. of nylon, and in the heel region the sockets 1 may be mounted on a heel block (not shown).
