Abstract

1303525 Boots &c R P ANDROSIGLIO 24 June 1970 [25 June 1969] 30667/70 Heading A3B A ventilated shoe includes a sole comprising a top layer 5, a bottom layer 2 and a heel 3 of resiliently deformable material secured to the lower face of the bottom layer 2, the heel 3 having a cavity 4 which communicates through an aperture in the bottom layer 2 with generally longitudinally extending passageways 6 formed between the top and bottom layers 5 and 2, the top layer 5 having a plurality of apertures 7 and 8 formed only at the toe and heel regions which communicate with the heel cavity 4 and the passageways 6. In use, during walking, as the foot is placed on the ground the heel 3 is deformed and the heel of the foot blocks holes 7 so that air is forced from the cavity 4 through grooves 6 and holes 8 into the forward region 10 of the shoe. When the foot is lifted the foot blocks holes 8 so that air is sucked into the cavity 4 through holes 7 when the heel returns to its natural shape. An insock (not shown) may be placed inside the shoe so that it blocks the holes 7, 8, the sole then acting as a pneumatic sole and as heat insulator.
