Abstract

907,141. Insoles. SCHALLER, J. Jan. 7, 1959 [Jan. 7, 1958; Dec. 2, 1958], No. 663/59. Class 17 (2). A sole 19 has a plurality of parallel-sided cutouts 20 extending inwardly from each edge at the shank, with the width of each cut-out at least equal to the thickness of the sole. The two sets of cut-outs may be aligned or staggered, and may extend heelwardly and toewardly of the shank. As shown, the insole, e.g. of leather, impregnated fibres, or plastic such as poly vinylchloride, has cut-outs 20 at the side edges, 21, at the area engaged by the ball of the big toe, 22 at the heel, and 23 at the area engaged by the toe pads. The cut-outs 20, 21, 22, 23 may be filled with elastic material, e.g. foam rubber, forming a shaped foot cushion, but cut-outs 21, 22 preferably have fillings of material which is still more elastic. The cushion is symmetrical at the rear part of the heel cavity, has a raised inner edge 25 at a bulge at the front end of the heel cavity, and a raised outer edge 24 between the toe and shank which is increased in height as the height of the heel increases. The filling of cut-outs 21, 22 is depressed at the centre. Specification 812,007 is referred to.
