Abstract

1291338 Boots &c J W BROWN 15 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 59403/70 Heading A3B A pneumatic cushioning sole or insole has, in at least the heel portion, a hollow compressible air containing body and a valve, the arrangement being such that, in use, on application of a wearer's weight to the heel portion, the valve is closed and the air is compressed within the insole or sole until the internal air pressure counter balances the wearer's weight. The valve may be a hole which is closed by the wearer's heel. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1) an insole 1 has a hollow heel 2 and toe portion 3 and a hole 4 is provided in the upper surface of the heel portion 2. The insole 1 is made of elastic material such as foamed thermoplastics material, natural or synthetic rubber and the like. In a second embodiment (not shown) a shoe is provided with a cushion sole consisting of resilient lower and side walls and a rigid upper wall having a hole in the heel region.
