CUSHION SHOE-SOLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1908.
Appucation mea July 1s, 190s. serial No. 326,740.
Beit known that I, EVA E. HARMON, a citizen Of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cushion Shoe-Soles; and I do hereby declare the followin to be a fullclear, and exact description o the invention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to attachments for shoes, boots or the like and my Object is to provide an insert piece between the sole and upper of the shoe of elastic material whereby concussion, jars or shocks to the frame Of the wearerV will be obviated.
A further object is to provide means for re# taining the elastic insert iece in shape to conform to the bottom Oi) the foot Of the wearer.
Other Objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more' particularly pointed Out in the claims.-
In the accom anyinc* drawings which are made a part of t is application, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved insert piece, and, Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof as applied to use u on the bottom of the shoe.
Re erring tO the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the body of a shoe which may be of the usual Or any preferred shape to the bottom of which is secured my improved elastic insert 2, said insert being provided with a heel portion 3 which is thicker than the remainder Of the insert thereby dis osing that portion of the upper surface of t e insert immediately Over the heel out of alinement with the remainder Of the insert while the inste portion of the insert is gradually inclined groin the body portion to the heel section thereby forming a recess 4 On the lower side of the insert, the slanted ortion 5 of the insert conforming to the ho low of the foot.
An Outer covering 6 is provided for the insert and preferably consists of a leather which is directed upwar ly into the recess portion of the insert and forms a brace therefor, a. portion of the covering at this point being in line with the slanted ortion 5 Of the insert while the vportion 7 t ereof is directed downwardly and rearwardly to coincide with the tapered face 8 at the juncture between the heel portion 3 and the body portion proper.
The insert is so constructed that it is provided with a lurality Of irregularly disposed cells so that w en the cells have become filled with air the cushioning eect of the insert will be greatly enhanced and while I have shown the insert as can be so constructed as to be inserted in the shoe and act as an insole, the cushioning effect being the same as when applied tO the bottom Of the shoe.
What I claim is:
As an improved article of manufacture, a shoe having an insert comprising a body portion of elastic material wlth irregularl disposed cells, a heel portion ness than the body portion with a slanting portion at the 'unction of the heel and body portions, said s antingportion being in opposite directions and extended toward the toe of the insert, the longer side of the slanting portion being toward the front of the shoe with the apex to the rear Of the center of the shoe, and an outer covering secured to the under side of said insert and having Oppositely slanted portion conformin to the slanted portion of the bod and hee portion.
