Abstract
1,006,479. Orthopaedic footwear. A. S. J. KALSOY. Oct. 4, 1963 [Oct. 6, 1962], No. 39214/63. Heading A3B. Footwear of the type having heavy sole parts formed in such manner that when the wearer walks the footwear rolls on a curved surface located on the underside of the sole and beneath the ball of the foot has its curved surface 5 extending from a rectilinear generatrix F (Fig. 2) which passes through a point beneath the little toe and makes an angle of 70 degrees to 90 degrees with a line A which passes through a point beneath the big toe and a point at the rear of the outside of the heel. The curved surface may be cylindrical or conical. The foot supporting surface 7 of the shoe has a depression 8 which follows the line M1, M2 and is deepest at the outside of the heel at 82, the supporting surface 10 for the big toe slopes downwardly and the supporting surface 9 for the remaining toes slopes upwardly, and the area 11 rises towards an arch supporting area 12 which supports only the rearmost one-third of the arch, the overall effect being that at the heel end the foot supporting surface has an outwardly directed incline and at the toe end it has an inwardly directed incline. The sole 2 is preferably made of wood but may be made of cork, rubber, leather or plastics material and the wearing surfaces 3, 4 and 5 may be made of rubber or plastics material. The sole may be attached to the foot by straps (not shown) passing through holes 13 in the sole.
