Abstract

1,143,420. Boots &c. S. J. WIKLER.. 29 June, 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 29112/66. Heading A3B. An orthopaedic shoe is made on a last having a straight inner edge 97 in the region of the inner longitudinal arch, a toe region with diverging sides 99, 99, a flat plantar surface in the region of the waist 95 and a protuberance 98 on the outer edge in the region of the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal. The instep region of the last reaches its maximum height in a plane parallel to the inner edge 97, the plane being nearer the inner edge than the outer edge. The inner edge of the last may be corrugated in the region of the inner longitudinal arch to render the shoe flexible in this area. The shoe may be a flat soled shoe or may have a raised heel in which case the shoe is provided with a shank stiffener (not shown) extending from the heel to a point behind the forth and fifth metatarsal phalangeal joints. The sole may be provided with raised supporting means e.g. a support 51 having a bevelled edge 56 extending beneath the fourth and fifth toes, a support 72 having bevelled edges 78, 80 extending beneath the outer longitudinal arch, and a support 26 having bevelled edges 44 extending beneath the inner edge of the heel.
