Abstract

569,553. Boots &c. SPINK, W. April 20, 1940, No. 7141. [Class 17 (ii)] A boot or shoe is provided with a longitudinal lift, section or support 7, along and under the outer side of the foot of maximum thickness under the base of the fifth metatarsal bone at 8 to remedy " treading over ". The lift or support may extend forwardly from the heel to beyond the head of the fifth metatarsal and taper both forwardly and rearwardly from the portion of maximum thickness, as well as transversely beyond the centre line of the shoe waist. The support 7 may be formed by building up the outer margin of the shoe insole, or formed integral with or building up the outer side of a sock inserted in the shoe. Alternatively, it may be formed by a metal or spring plate or other packing piece placed between the inner and outer soles, if necessary in conjunction with other packing. The heel portion of the shoe or of the support may be cupped for the proper location of the heel and the support or a heel stiffener may be extended upwardly as at 11 on the outer side of the heel as far forward as the base of the fifth metatarsal bone.
