Abstract

425,661. Foot-arch supports. ARNOLD, J. F., and WILLIAMS, A., 6, Milbourne Street, Well Street, Hackney, London. June 13, 1934, No. 17490. [Class 81 (ii)] [See also Group VII] A resilient foot - arch supporting pad is accommodated in a pocket in the shoe lining and is supported against the foot by stiffening means such as a forward extension on the inner side of the heel stiffener, or by a separate stiffener located adjacent the foot arch. The pocket may be formed by stitching together the two layers of a double lining or, as shown, Fig. 1, by stitching an extra piece of material 3, such as soft leather, to the lining 2. The stitches which form the pocket may also secure in place a backing piece adhesively or otherwise connected to the back of the resilient pad. The arch-supporting extension 5, Fig. 2, on the heel stiffener 6 is reduced in height, as shown, to permit it to bend. The pad may be of sponge rubber of semicircular or crescent shape and may taper in thickness upwards from the base.
