Abstract
721,957. Force-lasted footwear. MANFIELD & SONS, Ltd. April 24, 1952. [Jan. 2, 1952], No. 133/52. Class 17 (2). A shoe upper 1, and lining if such be provided, is precision cut and joined intermediate the toe and heel areas where flexibility is desired to a sock element 2 by butted or close seams, 7, 8, which may be straight and parallel or divergent 'towards the toe, or follow the shape of the shoe upper margins, and is then drawn in bag-form over a last and force-lasted to draw the margins 9, 10 of the upper over the sole of the last for the attachment of a sole and completion of the shoe. The sock 2 may extend to the toe and heel areas 4, 5, the former being cement-lasted to the upper and the latter cement-, staple-, or tack-lasted over a heel seat piece. A shank stiffener 15 may be inserted in a pocket 16 mounted on the waist of the sock by seams 17, 18 and covered by a layer of felt or other cushioning material 14.
