Abstract

563,258. Boots &c. LOWY, H., and SCHWARTZ, A. March 9, 1943, No. 3808. [Class 17 (ii)] A shoe &c. sole comprises a main stiffening layer 1 of cardboard, leatherboard, &c., a covering layer 2 of leather applied to the outer surface of the stiffening layer, a thin leather or other sock 3 covering the inner surface of the stiffening layer and a heel lift 4 associated with the heel portion of the sole assembly, the sock, main' layer and covering layer being united together by peripheral stitching 6. As shown, a folded welt strip 5 is inserted beneath the edge of the sole portion of the sock 3 and the edge of the leather split 2 is skived down and turned in over the stiffening' layer. A thin layer of cardboard 7 may be inserted in the folded welt and forms a layer between the sock 3 and main stiffening layer 1 and extends under the heel lift 4.
