[Class 17 (ii)] A shoe or slipper which has a moccasin construction of upper at the forepart and an overlasted construction at the heel is built around a combined platform and heel unit 14 which extends the full length of the sole. The unit 14 may include a full length platform, 16 and heel lift elements 18, 20 above and/or below it, or a solid wedge heel or cuban or other unitary heel may be secured below the platform, with shank stiffening means 22 on the shank. The elements 18, 20 may be,of matted fibre bound at those edge portions which may be visible. The upper comprises a bottom section 10 of leather or other flexible sheet material which underlies the platform andheel unit 14 throughout its forepart and at least a substantial portion of its rearp art, and a top forepart 12 of flexible sheet material. A sock lining 24 covers the stiffener 22 and the entire area of platform and heel and is preferably cemented to it. The edges of the parts 10, 12 are laced or stitched together. In a modification, the moccasin effect may be carried around the heel part of the shoe as well. In a further modification, the platform is of even thickness throughout, with a wedge heel superposed. A rearwardly extending strip from the bottom section of the upper may face the undersurface in the shank and also cover the heel breast.
