Abstract

731,375. Sandals. BROWN & CO. (LEICESTER), Ltd., T. July 20, 1953 [July 18, 1952], No. 18196/52. Class 17 (2). An upstanding peripheral wall 9, Fig. 1, is provided around at least the forepart of the insole 1 of a sandal and in the finished sandal, is located within the spaced strap portions, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 which form the upper of the sandal and which are turned inwards and secured beneath the insole. The wall 9 serves to confine the foot and protect the toes from contact with the lower parts of such straps. It may be formed by a welt strip 13, Fig. 6, of the required length covered by a thinner piece 15 of flexible leather, one margin 15a which projects beyond the edge of the strip 13 and serves for its attachment to the insole. This attachment is made by adhesive, the margin 15a being coated with adhesive and drawn to the shape of the insole on a last by pulling on a draw-string 16 threaded under zig-zag stitches 17 on the margin 15a. The wall 9 may extend also around the heel, the heel portion 10, Fig. 1, being separate from the forward portion and joined at the opposite sides of the waist. An outer sole 11 and heel lift 12 are added to the sandal.
