Abstract

496,339. Foot-arch supports. BOREHAM, A. W Jan. 11, 1938, No. 865. [Class 17 (ii)] A foot-arch supporting insert for boots and shoes comprises a base of leather curved or blocked to the shape of the sole of the foot upon which are placed felt pads for supporting the metatarsal arch, the inner and outer longitudinal arches and the posterior transverse arch, the whole being covered by a layer of calf skin and reaching from the balls of the toes to the rear of the heel. The insert is cut away at the front end at A and B to provide hollows for the great and little toe joints leaving a tongueshaped part E on which the support G for the metatarsal arch is situated with its apex at a point immediately behind the metatarsal bone of the fourth toe. The apex of the support for the inner longitudinal arch is immediately beneath the lower end of the scaphoid bone.
