Foot-arch supports.-A foot-arch support forming an integral part of a boot or shoe comprises a metal shank a, the forward end of which is inserted in a pocket formed by cutting the leather piece b, movement of the shank being prevented by brads c driven into the leather and engaging notches c<1> in the shank. Movement of the shank at the heel end is allowed by means of a rivet e secured to the leather b and engaging in a slot d formed in the shank. The leather piece b is provided with a side extension b<1> to prevent lateral spreading of the foot. The shoe may be provided with double stiffening as shown at e' in Fig. 5, and the shank and arch-support may be covered with an insole f. Specification 282,138 is referred to.
