Class 17(2) A shoe, which may be adapted to different usage by fitting a heel of a different height, comprises co-operating means between the sole and heel whereby the heel is releasably secured in position, a curved shank stiffener 1 which lies between the inner and outer soles and is secured at its heel end to the outer sole to extend forwardly to the inner or rear end of the tread portion of the sole, and a transverse groove 2 adjacent the forward end of the arch of the sole to enable it to adapt itself to the variations of heel heighte, A numeber of constructions for detachably securing a heel are described.
