Abstract

1,030,402. Moulding footwear. C.I.C. ENGINEERING Ltd. May 31, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 8143/62. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A3] Footwear comprises an upper having a sole unit bonded thereto by direct moulding, the sole unit having extensions which constitute part of the upper. As described a shoe has an upper 16 which is cut away at the toe and heel regions, a lining 11 and insole 19 which extend over the whole of the shoe and a sole unit 14 having extensions 12, 13 at the toe and heel where the upper is cut away. A heel block 20 may be incorporated in the sole. The marginal edges of the upper may be skived, roughened or perforated to provide a key for the sole material which may be bonded to the upper by injection moulding (e.g. in the case of a polyvinyl chloride sole) or compression moulding (e.g. in the case of a rubber sole). Escape of the material from the mould may be prevented by the mould itself (Fig. 8, not shown) or by a sealing strip 27, as shown in Fig. 9. A projective toe-cap (not shown) may be incorporated in the toe portion 12 and the sole may extend over the sides of the upper to form a fixing strip 31.
