Abstract
812,386. Boots &c. C. I. C. ENGINEERING Ltd., COTTIER, R., and DENTON, G. H. May 2, 1957 [May 15, 1956], No. 15072/56. Class 17(2) A reinforced toe for boots for miners, quarrymen or other industrial workers comprises a metal or similar toe cap 7 having inturned flanges 6 located between an insole 8 and a leather toe cap 9 and a firm sole 3, such as hard moulded rubber having a compressible zone 1 within the area surrounded by the flanges 6. The zone 1 is made compressible by arcuate grooves 10 following the contour of the sole edge moulded into the tread face and it allows the toe of the boot to maintain its depth when the toe cap is compressed. In a modification a single deep and narrow groove is used leaving only a thin bridging portion between the zone 1 and the edge of the sole. As shown the sole is moulded in situ to the boot but other constructions are described where soles are stuck on with or without the use of a welt.
