973,461. Rectifying. CARL ZEISS-STIFTUNG, [trading as C. ZEISS [firm of]]. Feb. 15, 1962, No. 5751/62. Heading H2F. A voltage multiplier rectifier has capacitors and (2n+1) rectifying elements arranged so that the output polarity is determined by whether the first 2n or the last 2n rectifying elements are in circuit, the rectifying element at one end or the other being out of use. The rectifying elements may be mounted on a vertically movable frame, in the relative positions shown in the Figure with contacts 17, 18, 19 &c. connecting the fixed capacitors and the movable rectifying elements (Fig. 2, not shown). Alternatively, switches may be used, which may comprise rods having alternate insulating and conducting sections sliding through contact rings which are connected in pairs by the conducting sections (Figs. 6a, 6b, 7, not shown). If the rectifying elements are thermionic valves, the valve heaters may be supplied from secondary windings sliding over transformer cores, or from transformers fixed to either the fixed or the movable frame, and connected by flexible leads (Figs. 4, 5, 7, not shown).
