973,109. Welding bags from sheet material. PAUL MOORE CO. Ltd. Aug. 27, 1962 [June 6, 1962], No. 32861/62. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] Bags shaped in plan as shown at B1, B2 in Fig. 13 are welded and parted from tube 1 which includes a gusset 7 so that the bottom of the bag can expand. The welding and parting may be produced simultaneously by applying a suitably shaped heating element long enough to effect parting, or by combining a knife with the heating element. Alternatively, the heating and parting members may complete the bottom 315<SP>1</SP> and side 313<SP>11</SP> of one bag and the adjacent side 313<SP>1</SP> of the adjacent bag so that a bag is completed only after two operations between which the web is moved beneath the welding and parting heads. In a further alternative half the bottom 315<SP>1</SP>, and the adjacent half of the bottom 315 of the next bag, together with the sides 313<SP>1</SP>, 313<SP>11</SP> are formed simultaneously. The gussetted tube may be formed at the same time as the bag-forming welds by the arrangement shown in Fig. 14. The bag may be formed of thermoplastic film or of kraft paper, boxboard, or cloth coated with thermoplastic material. Specification 921,752 is referred to.
