Abstract
1427683 Draw-string closure for bags G MEIER 16 April 1974 [14 May 1973] 16669/74 Heading B8K A draw-cord or draw-tape closure for a bag or sack comprises material strips 5, 6, Fig. 1, defining a hem 2, at least one draw-cord or draw-tape 3 within the hem, and a row of holes or slits 7 or 8 formed in the material strips and extending longitudinally thereof, so that upon closing of the closure the holes or slits allow the hem to form folds. The material strips are preferably of plastics and may be integral with or welded to a bag or sack. The holes or slits may be oval or round or, as in Fig. 5, of I-shape. The closure is produced by providing two rows of holes, e.g. 7, 8, Fig. 3, on each side of a line 14 parallel with an edge 25 of the material, placing a draw-cord or drawtape over one row of holes, folding the material about the line 14, and forming a hem by a longitudinal weld seam, e.g. 13 in Fig. 5. Alternatively the hem comprises two material strips welded along the seam 13 and at the bag edge. The draw-cord or tape may be held in position by a transverse weld. More than one tape or cord may be provided.
