Abstract

532,642. Making paper &c. bags. ROYAL & CO., T. M. Sept. 18, 1939, No. 26073. Convention, date, Oct. 29, 1938. [Class 94 (ii)] A bag is formed from a web 1 of paper &c. united by adhesive to a web 6 of thermo-plastic material, the compound web being then folded at 9 into a tube with side gussets and overlapping longitudinal edges A, which are fused together by a heater 13. The tube then passes between rollers 15, 16 where it is cut into lengths, after which it passes into an end sealing mechanism comprising an endless belt 19 carrying a number of gripping elements 18 and heating elements 20, which fuse the thermo-plastic on a transverse zone B near the end of the tube. Before the web 1 is united to 6, portions 5 are cut out by rollers 2, 3, the apertures thus formed coinciding with the part of the side gussets which occur at the transverse sealing zone. When the bag is filled, the top may be sealed in the same way as the bottom.
