Abstract

1,157,513. Infusion bags. A. RAMBOLD. 26 Aug., 1966 [31 Aug., 1965], No. 38330/66. Heading B8C. An infusion bag 1 is formed from a tube of fibrous filtering material that is folded so that the ends meet to form a closure flap 5 held together by a staple 6 to which is attached a string 7 having a handle or label 8. As folded, the tube consists of two outer chambers 3, 4, and two intermediate bottom chambers 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> , all of which are filled with an infusible substance for preparing a beverage. When the bag is immersed in liquid, the substance expands so that the bag assumes a substantially triangular shape, the chambers 3, 4, each forming a side and the bottom chambers end-to-end forming the third side. The tube is formed from a strip the longitudinal edges of which are bent to form a trough, and is filled at intervals with portions of the infusible substance; the longitudinal edges of the trough are connected and the tube is cut into equal lengths between adjacent portions. In a modification side chambers (203), (204), Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), are the same length as the bottom chamber (202), one chamber (203) being folded so as to lie between chambers (204) and (202). The side chambers (303), (304), Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), may each be concertinaed into three equal parts which lie on the bottom chamber (302). The bag may have chambers (403), (404), Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), partially sandwiched between folded portions of the bottom chamber (402).
